May 7th is World AIDS Orphans' Day

More than 15 million children worldwide have lost one or both parents to AIDS – equivalent to the number of people living in New York, Paris and Rome combined.

In sub-Saharan Africa alone, 12 million children have been orphaned by the pandemic. Experts believe that millions more orphans remain unaccounted for in India, China and Russia. Stigmatized, facing profound financial and emotional despair, AIDS orphans have no means of making themselves heard.

In 2002, FXB and its founder Albina du Boisrouvray established a worldwide advocacy event to protect these vulnerable and underprivileged children: May 7th is World AIDS Orphans' Day.

Since then, thousands of people have participated in World AIDS Orphans Day events in more than 20 countries. Nearly 800 mayors and elected officials across the globe have signed pledges advocating for the need to address the orphans crisis. 

Today, a diverse coalition of organizations, government officials and everyday citizens is standing up to make children a priority in the fight against AIDS. We need your help to speak out and spread the word about World AIDS Orphans' Day. Your voice is their future.
